Rune Essence
There are 2 types of rune essence. Rune Essence, and Pure Essence. Rune essence can be mined at level one, however it can be used only for making the 6 basic runes (non-member runes). At level 30 mining, players will automaticly get Pure Essence, instead of Rune Essence. Pure Essence is mined in the same place as Rune Essence, and has many of the same qualities, except it can be used to craft ALL runes. Pure essence is a member only item.

Note:
Pure Essence can only be mined on a MEMBER server, however, due to the amout of free players who lost tons of money when the switch was made, pure essence is tradeable on non member servers.

Talismans and Tiaras

To craft runes, you will need a talisman or a tiara that matches the type of rune you wish to craft. For example, to craft fire runes, you need to take a blank essence, and a fire talisman/tiara to the fire altar. Talismans allow you to not only enter the altar, but to find it. Right click the talisman and select Locate to get a general "the talisman points north/south/east/west" message.

Talismans unfortunately take up space in your inventory, so if you wish to have that space for runes, tiaras are the way to go. Tiaras can be worn to give an extra space. To craft a Tiara, take a talisman, and a blank tiara to the altar of your choice, and use the tiara with the altar.

Essence Pouches
Rune pouches are a nifty little acessory for hardcore runecrafters. If you do the chaos mage mini-quest, you will be given a small pouch (holds 3 ess). At level 25 you can use a medium pouch (holds 6 ess), and at level 50 you can use a large pouch (holds 9 ess), and at level 75 you can use a Giant pouch (holds 12 ess). Pouches allow you to carry more essence per trip, so they can make runecrafting alot easier. To get pouches, you will need to enter the abyss in the wilderness (level 5) and kill the monsters there untill you get the pouch you desire.
