Introduction
Barrows is a grave robbers paradise. Many people have perfected the art of the game in many different ways. The article below is NOT by any means a list of required levels, quests, and/or items. It is simply the way that we have found best suits the authors levels and habits. If you feel that the article provides a weaker method than one which you would like to use, simply seek out anothers method, or create your own.

Reccomendations
No matter what guide you read, they will almost always tell you that level 43 prayer is a MUST HAVE. While (technicly speaking) you can do barrows without prayer, Dharoks is known to hit up to 66 on players who attemt to kill him without it. He is not the only dangerous brother either. Karil can hit in the 20s on a single shot, Ahirm is known for his 25+ hits, and Guthan is known for his 25+ hits. Taking into account that your prayer is drained wheither you use it or not, it really makes more sense to use it anyways.

Level wise, we would advise you to not attempt barrows untill you have at least level 60 ranged, level 59 magic, and level 55 prayer. Level 59 magic allows you to cast Fire Blast, a powerfull spell that can do much damage to your opponent. If you do not have a large stock of runes for this spell, there is an alternative spell, Magic Dart, which can be powerfull. The only downside to this is that you need level 55 slayer, and a slayers staff.

Equipment
In terms of equipment, you will be using all 3 attack styles (Mage, Melee, Ranged) to defeat the barrows brothers and their army of minion spiders, skeletons, and rats. Mage is by far the most important style, as you kill 5 out of 6 brothers this way.

As mentioned above, you should pick between either the magic dart, or fire blast spell. Magic dart is actually reccomended over fire blast because it is cheaper, does more damage, and the staff provides an amazing magic bonus over normal and even battle staves. Next we look at clothing. Mystic robes are a common sight at barrows for their bonus, however if you can afford it, ahrims is adviseable. An amulet of glory should be worn for the mage bonus. Once we get to gloves and rings it gets a little tricky. The ring slot should be occupied by a seers ring if you can afford one. By the same token if you cannot afford a seers ring, a lunar ring offers a decent mage bonus considering it is free if you do the Lunar Diplomacy quest. Recipie for disaster will give you access to the gloves. Most, if not all of these gloves should provide a better mage bonus than mystic. Remember. When it comes to bonuses and barrows, your using prayer, so Mage DEFENSE bonus does not matter.

Next we will cover ranged. Ranged is only used once per trip, so it isnt as important as mage or melee but it is needed to defeat the mage, Ahrim. Ahrims magic defense is so high that it is inconventional to mage him, even if your mage level is twice that of your ranged. You should take a magic bow, rune or adament arrows, and a ranged potion (optional and by no means nessecary). Dragonhide armour is also optional as it is only for one battle. The debate is that you are only using it for one fight, but at the same time it gives a good bonus. Space vs reward ratio?....for me it seems to come down to a matter of personal preference. As a rule of thumb, if you can wear red or black dragonhide armour, take it. Anything less, leave it in the bank Thats valuable food or potion space.

Our next area is melee. Any decent melee armour is needed (rune and above). Adament and below is not reccommended. The tunnels are full of skeletons, spiders, bloodworms, and rats. For the most part, you should be ok here. You may need to eat once or twice to get the kill count you desire, but it wont be that bad. A weapon is also needed of course (rune or better - whips adviseable). Rings and amulets arent needed here. The melee reccomendations are fairly lax, just strap on what you like to wear when you train melee and away we go.

Finally, we'll cover what you should have in your inventory. First and foremost, always reserv 2 spots. One for a spade, and one for an emergency teletab or ectophile. Never, ever attempt barrows without an emergency tele. A level 126 with 99 hp can attempt Dharoks, run out of prayer accidentally, and be 2 hit by him. Always watch your prayer, and always be prepared to tele out. You can pick up where you left off if you have to. Most of your space will probably be taken up by armour, runes, and potions. We would advise 4 prayer potions for a mid-level player. At level 105 (at the time of this writing), level 64 prayer, we use 3-4 doses per trip. This averages out to 1 potion, give or take. By the same token, barrows misclicks, mishaps, and just plain bad luck are unpredictable, so TAKE EXTRA.

For the most part that wraps up our equipment section. You might want to add in 4 or 5 peices of food, but other than that you should be set. As your barrows experiance grows, you will get better and better, and may decide to tweak your setup here and there. Whatever you choose, take note: If there is one place in the game where you DONT want to be caught unprepared, its here. Always have enough supplies that you can finish the trip. If you arent positive, tele out and get more.

The Brothers
Who could do barrows at all if it wasnt for this fine family of 6. Reading the crumbling tome that spawns near the entrance will show that they were once great heros, unbeatable for years. Their weapons were said to have special abilities that gave them the advantage in battle, and they were feared by all.

Ahrim
You should always start with Ahrim on your trips. This way you dont have to switch attack methods in the middle of a trip. Ahrims uses mage spells, so plan accordingly with good armour with a good magic defense. Fighting Ahrim first also gives you time for it to go back up before getting to the tunnels where you need melee.
Special
Ahrim's special is a mage attack that will reduce your melee attack stats. For this reason it is recommended that you range him. Mage is ineffective.

Karil
His repeating crossbow can be a very bad sight if you are on the wrong end of it without the proper divine intervention (*cough*prayer*cough*), so be careful.

Special
Karil's special is a ranged attack using his crossbow that will reduce your agility. Not the most devestating attack but it could effect the speed of your run.

Guthan
Guthan, like all brothers, is a fairly easy kill if you have good stats, so for the most part, no prayer is needed here. It is your choice, of course, but you have to kill him either way.
Special
Guthan's special allows him to heal. Because of this you should either use and advantage you have to kill him fast. He will still heal if you pray, but you will not take any damage.

Dharok
Dharok is a beast if you have to fight him. Only the foolhearty with a deathwish fight him without prayer. Ancient spells are a substitute, but not recommended here, because if you freeze him, and he thaws before you kill him, but has low health, you may find yourself on the wrong end of a 1 hit kill.
Special
Dharok's special is a devistating slice from his greataxe. His strength will go up as his health goes down, and when he gets below 10% health his strength will double. Dharok has been known to hit a massive 66 on players who do not use prayer. It is extremely recommended that you pray, and always keep it well above the amount of prayer points needed to kill him, because of possible connection loss.

Verac
Verac is a straightforward pound each other untill one falls type of fight. Just kick on prayer (optional) and take him down. Food is recommended.
Special
Veracs armour is a favorite and a must-have among Kalphite Queen hunters. This is, however a double edged sword, because his special allows him to ignore armour and prayer. For verac vs players, and pvp, this is cut down to 50% of the damage that would be caused by a player vs npc battle.

Torag
Torag seems to have swam in the shallow end of the barrows gene pool. At a defense level of 80, he hit 1 out of 9 times on me for a whopping 3 hp. His special is not nessecarily anything to write home about either. Nonetheless, prayer should be used here as he can knock up the odd 20+ hit.
Special
Torag's special effect is that with every successful melee hit, the opponents run energy may be reduced. Torag and Karil make a nasty team if your trying to make quick runs...(sarcasm)

The Crypts
The crypts appear as large mounds (Barrows in dictionary terms) which you will need to climb and dig on to enter the crypts. Ahrims is in the middle, followed by Karil to the south, Guthan to the east of Karil, Dharoks south of Guthan, Verac east of Dharok (all the way against the western wall), and Torag south of Verac.

Rewards
If you are skilled enough to complete a trip, you can claim prizes such as runes, coins, half keys, dragon helmets, barrows peices, and much more. Your kill count will affect the value of your prize, but any more than a 20 kill count is useless. The tunnels are a fairly simple "maze". See below.

Random Tip:
For Rangers who enjoy crossbows, you might want to look into getting a bolt pouch from the crossbow salesdwarf in Keldagrem. A pouch holds 4 types of bolts, and up to 255 of each type.
Scam Alert!
A less common scam nowadays is the itme duplication scam. Items cannot be duplicated, no matter who tells you what. It is not possible.
